Mission Statement of The Stewpot Alliance
The Stewpot Alliance was formed “to support and promote The Stewpot and to serve as a resource for volunteer events and development opportunities.” The major development opportunity is the annual Soup's On! luncheon being held January 29, 2013 at the Omni Hotel in Dallas Texas.
Over 35 years ago, The Stewpot began providing food on a daily basis to our homeless and at-risk residents. Programs have developed over the years to assist in addressing medical needs, counseling, enrichment of children and youth, job training and cultural expression. The Bridge opened in 2008 and many of you currently volunteer to serve meals at the Second Chance Café. In 2012, The Stewpot expanded again by incorporating the landmark 508 Park into its realm of activities. When completed, 508 Park will be a multi-use facility with a music academy, recording studio, amphitheater, rooftop terrace, community garden, the Open Art Program, and the Museum of Street Culture.
This year, the Soup’s On! luncheon, which benefits The Stewpot and its programs, will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Wes Moore, our keynote speaker, is a youth advocate, Army veteran, national bestselling author, and innovative social entrepreneur. This first book, The Other Wes Moore, became an instant New York Timesbestseller. He is also the host of Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Wes believes, “public service does not have to be an occupation, but must be a way of life.”
We look forward to seeing you January 29, 2013 at the Omni Dallas Hotel.
