Steve Blow, a columnist for The Dallas Morning News, will be acting as the Master of Ceremony for our time together. He brings a personal knowledge of The Stewpot as he is a frequent volunteer!
Steve joined The Dallas Morning News as a reporter in 1978. He has written a popular column on the Metropolitan page of The Morning News since 1989.
Before joining The News, Steve worked as a reporter at the now-departed Fort Worth Press and at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Steve’s columns have been named the best in the state by the Dallas Press Club, the Headliners Club of Austin and the Associated Press. Both the editors and readers of The Dallas Observer have named his column the best in Dallas.
Steve grew up in Tyler, in East Texas. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Texas. His wife, Lori, is a teacher in Mesquite. They have two grown children — a daughter, Ali, and a son, Corey. Both are married and now live and work in Dallas.
Best of all, he is the grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren.
We have the privilege of spotlighting a long-time Dallas couple for their wonderful contributions to our city. Our Soup's On! Honorary Chairs, Joan and Elvis Mason will be our special guests.
Joan and Elvis have been very active supporters of The Stewpot since becoming members of the First Presbyterian Church in 1996. They have served on the Advisory Board for The Stewpot, and were Co-Chairs for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of The Stewpot. They have been active participants in many Stewpot affairs including fund raising events and service programs for both adults and children. Joan was active in the formation of The Stewpot Alliance, a nd was Chairman of its first event, leading to the Soup’s On! annual luncheon.
Both Joan and Elvis are Elders at First Presbyterian Church and have served on the Church’s governing board, the Session. While serving on the Session, Joan served as Moderator of the Coordinating Council. She has been a Stephen Minister at First Presbyterian Church and is active in the Women of the Church, recently serving as Chairman of the Program Committee. She has a long history of service in many Dallas civic organizations, including: member and former President of the Shakespeare Club; Docent at the Dallas Museum of Art; PTA Boards of St Mark’s, Hockaday, & ESD; and is a member, Dallas Woman’s Club and Dallas Garden Club. Joan is currently a member of the Board of the Friends of the Alzheimer’s Center at UTSW.
